The best way to achieve sales through your link is to offer help and tuition on problems that people are looking for solutions to. You explain how they can solve their problem and direct them to online resources via your affiliate links to help them out.
Doing it this way will increase the sales conversion percentage well beyond that obtained by simply placing a banner on your site. Just think how you react when you land on a website. You expect to get something out of it rather that immediately clicking on banners etc.
